Why So Many Street Lights Are Currently Purple #shorts

By | February 8, 2023

The street lights are turning purple all across
North America. From Manitoba to Florida to New York to North
Carolina, and all across the Midwest, they look like this. A color rarely seen in nature and one that
certainly stands out. One of these purple street lights is next
to my house. So why are they purple instead of the standard
white? Is it aliens? Well no, it’s not aliens. Apparently it’s just a defect with LED street
lights installed in 2019. They are supposed to be white, but the yellow
filters in the lights are going out, making the blue and red filters mix to create purple.

It took me a while to figure out that the
company responsible for the purple street lights is Acuity Brands, an American lighting
and building management company, but they’ve said only a small amount of streetlights are
affected and they’re covered under warranty. Within a few months, most of those purple
lights should once again be white..
