DeWalt recently released a new 5 amp hour power stack battery, which is larger and heavier than expected. However, its pouch-style cells likely have a high discharge rate, making its output of amps phenomenal. This 5 amp hour power stack is the same size as a 4 amp hour compact, but thick like the 6 amp hour battery.
The goal of testing this battery is to determine its power output, not its amp hours. Power output will be measured through voltage, with results showing that the more voltage drops, the less cells inside can discharge at a rate that delivers higher amps. Testing will range from 2 amp hour to 15, excluding 12.
Level one on the drill mode with a 3 and 3 8 inch auger bit will be used to test the battery, as well as two 4×4 lumber pieces and a bidimensional lumber. From this, the voltage on the battery will be checked.
Several amps hours will be tested, with the 1.7 amp hour power stack performing well in comparison to the 3 and 4 amp hour compacts. However, the 5 amp hour power stack had the highest power output, reaching low 18s to high 17s for both lumber types. The 9 amp hour Flex volt had the highest resting battery of 21 volts, which cut out at the end of dimensional lumber while producing high 18s.
Though there were slight testing flaws, the 5 amp hour power stack proved to be impressive in power output and size, providing remarkable watt or amp output compared to the 9 amp hour Flex volt. It is ideal for those looking for a smaller, lightweight battery with substantial power output for 20 volt tools. The longevity of the battery and its performance in different environments will be further tested.
In conclusion, this battery is an innovative product from DeWalt that packs quite the punch. Its combination of high power output and small size makes it a must-have for those in search of a reliable, high-performance power tool battery.
