I’ve not talked about this a lot on the channel
but for the last four years we’ve been looking For a property with a shop and we finally found
it and it is awesome Today’s video is sponsored by SimpliSafe We have over five acres out here
in the country with a little three bedroom house And the shop that I’m standing in but it is 40 years old and it looks it so there’s a lot of Updating to do and repairs and there’s some
major health concerns in the house that we’ll Talk about a little bit later now my garage
shop that I’ve been in for the last 10 years And my house has been great but I’ve really
just been busting at the seams especially the Last two to three years and we’ve had to
turn down different opportunities whether That’s for Machinery or just bigger projects
and so we’ve really wanted to have a bigger Space like we have here and I am so excited
about it but there’s going to be a ton of work Looks like MTV Cribs except for old shops so this
is it it is a 35 foot long by 35 foot wide pole Barn and it is just some stick Framing and then
the sheet metal here and it is super hot to the Touch so on the other side of this is our 95
degree weather so insulation is going to be Mandatory here what I am worried about though is
the framing because it is just really sparse and It looks a little bit shoddy I mean I’ll give it
to him it’s been standing for 40 years but it’s Definitely needed a lot more if we’re going
to be putting some sheathing and walls up and Be hanging a lot of stuff on it now we’d have
the shop for a grand total of two days before I Started filling it with wood we went out and I saw
an auction locally and we bought four different Lots of wood this is one of them and there are
two other Lots I’ll show you but I am so excited To actually have some room where I can like do
things like buy a huge stack of wood and get a Bargain on it now we’re already starting off on
the plus side because the previous owner left me This Craftsman 12 inch bandsaw I’ve
not tried to even turn it on yet but She’s a Beauty so we do have three doors here
we’ve got a 10 foot garage door over there we’ve Got this nine footer here and a man door so a lot
going on I don’t think I need both of those doors So I may actually close this off and then over
here we also have the electric this is going to Be a big concern too because we’ve only got 30
amps coming out here so I don’t even have two Phase at this point so I couldn’t run basically
any of my Machinery we’re gonna have to get this Upgraded get at least 60 amps in here I’d like
to go like a hundred if we can and we do have A lot going on we’ve got these shelves built in
here and uh this little creepy guy I don’t know What we’re gonna do with him or he should give
him a name but I’m gonna be ripping all of this Stuff out and just making it a clean slate for
one so that we can insulate everything but for Two just so we can basically use it exactly how
we want it and not have to be confined by what was Ever here and big part of that is this office but
there’s something super cool about this office and
There’s a great story behind it too so the folks
here before us were definitely Hunters we’ve got Some nice you know deer horns and turkey or
duck feathers or whatever and hey adding to The collection we also have a bar clamp that was
already here so bandsaw and a bar clamped we are Way ahead this is an office and the coolest part
about this office is this door and you might not Recognize it but this is an elevator door and it
goes all the way down there’s a whole button now There’s not a whole bunch that would be amazing
but this is an elevator door and so there’s no Handle you can’t open it but the guy showed
me the trick and it’s this little thing right Here all I have to do is put it in here which
is like how they actually open elevator doors And then it opens up into the office This is the back of that door which is really
cool it’s got the tracks up there and then this Is actually how that lock works so when it goes
in that lock engages and then that little key Just opens it right there it is so cool I’m gonna
definitely save this I don’t know what I’m gonna Do with it but this is a really cool piece so this
was this guy’s man cave and he just had a little Chair which he left this nice little leather
chair this chair is definitely staying this is A fantastic shop chair all needs a couple Mountain
Dews and I’m good we got some cabinets we’ll Donate all this stuff and this desk but I do have
a little metal Vise here and a little plate which Is great and a grinder I’m just like stocking
up on these tools already this is fantastic the Shop does have water in it which is awesome so it
is just cold water but that’s okay just use it to Clean up when I need to but all this stuff will go
out and there’s a bunch of electricity that runs Through here that will all have to rewire and
of course we got two fridges which is greater It’s actually a freezer and a fridge over here but
the coolest thing about this place it’s actually Not that cool it’s actually kind of creepy let me
show you so from what I understand this was kind Of like The Killing Room or maybe that was The
Killing Room or at least the butchering room so Apparently one of the previous owners they were
huge deer hunters and this little hook here is Where they would put the meat up to cut it or dry
it but this was after the fact because what I was Told is this little window here which actually
goes through to the outside this is where they Would string up the deer outside and drain it or
whatever and then cut it up and pass it through This window and then they would do the next thing
I’m not 100 so I don’t know what is happening With that but uh I could just imagine how many
deer were fed through this window that’s kind of Creepy this is the side of the office and it does
have a roof it’s like fully insulated in there but They cut in a box fan up in the top and they cut
out the sheet metal just like they did with that Hole for the pass-through so we’re gonna have to
repair those before we go and do any insulation he Had this ladder already sitting up here so I don’t
know I’m gonna go up I looked at that box fan but I went over and looked on the side I think I saw
something really weird all right unfortunately I
Don’t think Susan can climb up here with me so
why don’t you hand me the phone there you can Kind of get a look at the framing here and like
I said I don’t know this might be standard this Might be okay but it really doesn’t look like a
lot there’s only this cross member here and then Another one over here on the right side that’s
holding these two trusses together and that just Doesn’t seem like enough to me especially
when the spacing is like 10 or 11 feet but The weird thing I believe that is a skull I
gotta go check that out all right it’s pretty Dark up here but I look back and I saw this little
thing and it is like a toy skeleton head that’s Plastic and I think the previous owner left it up
there just to freak me out and I gotta be honest They did a good job oh what is this
oh gosh I’m gonna fall into the roof Uh check that out we also have a little uh
duck decoy now here’s another big issue I’m Gonna have to deal with is these concrete Footers
right here so it’s actually on grade the shop and Ground levels are right about here so as it
goes up we have these Footers that are higher The problem is when they poured them they
obviously didn’t support the form so it’s Flush with the framing on the bottom and then it
just slopes out a good three inches or so so I’m Gonna have to get a concrete saw or something and
Chip this away or saw it away so I can do regular Framing or even put up some new walls so this is
going to be a huge pain in the butt to deal with So like I said the shop is 40 years old and this
is the original tin so it is super faded and just Dusty and chalky and it’s got a lot of little
dents and dings in it but there’s no major holes So I think we can get away with just washing it
down and putting a new coat of paint on it but I’m not sure I have to call in somebody who’s an
expert in this because I’ve never painted metal Um if you know anything about that let me know in
the comments another cool thing about the shop is On the back they put on a little lean to a little
Breezeway if you will and so we’ve got a back on It but open walls and this is where the second lot
of the wood that we brought in we put it here and This is all Walnut I am super excited about this
because there’s gonna be some great looking wood Coming out of that so here’s the backside where
they passed the deer through here so there’s A nice big hole in the back of the shop we’re
gonna have to repair and deal with and then up There as well where that fan is but here’s where
they used to hang the deer you can see this big Beam they put in across here to support them
so kind of nasty but you know they’re living They’re eating the food off the land I don’t know
how many deer these guys butchered but I’m just Hoping that the ghosts of these deers are not
going to be like haunting me around the shop All right here we are at the front of the house
and this house is a ranch house and it is about 40 years old so it’s definitely got some age
on it and some things to repair starting with The front steps to the porch which are completely
crumbled out we’re definitely gonna have a lot of Repairs on our hands now we love that the house
has a front porch but this one definitely needs
Some updating we’re thinking about pitching
the roof maybe putting some timber frame up There I think that would look really awesome
and just snazzing it up in general also the Other exterior thing is of the brick I really
don’t love this brick Susan doesn’t either and Susan really wants to have an off-white look
to the house so we might paint it and think About maybe a white and black theme that I think
could look pretty cool all right let’s head inside This is definitely the best looking room in
the entire house so don’t be fooled by the Appearances but this is a great sized room we’ve
got there’s a huge brick fireplace and I don’t Love this part over here that has a pass-through
but it’s kind of cool because actually if you look Through here it goes to the outside and you
can pass wood in between but you guys know I Love Symmetry and this is really bothering me so
I think we’re going to reduce it down to be just A normal size fireplace and wall that part up
they did upgrade the flooring which is nice and It does have a nice look to it with this little
scallops in it but it’s a little bit cheap it’s Really thin engineered wood definitely not
solid wood so we will probably have to end Up taking this out if we start moving walls and
rearranging things but it does look pretty nice Right coming through this doorway we go into
the kitchen in a little eat-in area and we do Have an air filter here which you’ll notice
and that is because we have some major air Quality issues that we will talk about in just a
little bit when we hit the crawl space but we are Thinking about potentially taking out this entire
wall and vaulting the ceiling we’ve seen that in Some of these small ranches and it looks really
awesome as you can see we have a ton of work to Do already and we’re not going to be able to move
in for quite a while and since we’re not going to Be here we want to be able to keep an eye on the

we do have a dim narrow hallway which we might Have to address later but coming down we’ve
got three bedrooms and the first one is here So just a little small bedroom we have a closet
which is pretty nice size that has no doors Unfortunately and uh these really cool little
pools on the fan I think that’s real crystal Another thing this room really has going forward
is the view out the window we have a nice big hill In the backyard that is one of the things that
we love about the property and we’ll be going up There a little bit later but this room definitely
has the best view in the house well it’s not a Good view is the bathroom now this is of the main
bathroom for all the guests and it has seen better Days and we’re missing a few light bulbs here it
is just dark we’ve got this old nasty cabinet but The worst of it all is up here we have got just
a bunch of mold growth up on the ceiling that is Definitely something we’re going to have to take
care of and I don’t think it’s like black mold Or anything but who knows so it is super dark in
here we have just a little surround tub and some Cracked tile floors and of course uh the towel
bar has been ripped off the wall as well so this Place is basically going entire gut at the end
of the hallway we have another bedroom and oh And this one is a little bit bigger than that last
one it’s actually got pretty decent carpet in it And also it has a TV on the wall so this little
guy is hanging up here but this room is a nice Size we also have a nice size Closet in here as
well but the best part about this entire room is Uh these little light switch covers and outlet
covers too that uh clearly we had some hunters In the family nice touch now go into the master
bedroom which is obviously the biggest in the Entire house and like any good content creator
does the very first thing I did was get fiber Internet and put a router right in the middle
of the bedroom so we do have internet access Here now but this room is got a great size to it
and I love the windows these are floor-to-ceiling Windows here and they’re not great they’re not
double insulated or anything but we do have storm Windows out there so I hope that we can keep
these and doing a restoration they might need But I love the view here right out into the front
yard it’s a really nice feeling room now here is The master bath and uh there’s Susan say hi Susan
so we have kind of a weird bath not a lot of room So we might you know be borrowing some room from
the actual bedroom but a little walk-in closet an Old nasty vanity with only a single sink which is
you know a little weird and then in here of course We have more mold I don’t know what was going on
they’re just not running the bath fans or if the Bath fans are clogged but this is disgusting
in here as well as the tub insert and just in General this is just nasty and again no door so
you know you’re sitting down doing your business Just have a conversation with somebody getting
dressed all right coming back out of the hallway We have a little mechanical slash laundry room
so we’ll spot for a washer dryer here and the Hot water tank which is very strange that it is
actually like cemented into the ground or piled
Or whatever uh but yeah this is a nice space
it’s just kind of weird I think it’s a little Bit too big for laundry room where we could
have had other space to be used for Pantry or Something like that so not sure what we’re gonna
do with this one but you know it’s nice to have All right now let’s take a trip back to the 80s
into the kitchen we have an Immaculate uh Butcher Block countertop here in there that’s that’s
for Micah but we do have some old oak solid Wood cabinets which they are nice it’s better than
formica or anything like that but they don’t have The height that we want although they also don’t
have a soffit so kudos to the Builder and it does Have some nice crown molding up there but I’ll
tell you what we’re just gonna have to obviously Get rid of them if these appliances also look like
they are original to the house and uh I don’t know It’s kind of cool kind of like the mechanical
switch here for the stove but I am really excited About the kitchen because after we take out all
these cabinets and we will give them to restore or Something we’re not going to destroy them want to
build the cabinets for this entire kitchen and if We blow down that wall I think it could be really
awesome have an island here and I think this Kitchen could really be cool again here a great
view out to the hill Oh hey the turkeys are out We’ve got one two three four five six seven eight
nine but chasing each other around those are got To be brothers one of the cool things about
this property is it came with some turkeys You could just kind of see them up there but
there’s a little family of turkeys and they’ll Come down and they’ll feed and we throw out
corn for them and they’ll come down here in The mornings and then the late afternoon and come
down so I’ve caught them a few times going around The property and try to sneak up on them they’re
just getting to know us so I think later on you Know we can make friends with them but uh for now
the Columbus Place turkey town we have some huge Trees on the property too this Maple here this is
going to be a big issue because it is all over the Top of the house and it’s just like a highway for
ants to get into the house as well as it’s already Kind of damaged the roof so we’re definitely going
to have to cut this back uh but this thing is an Absolute monster all right we’re gonna come around
to the side of the house where we have our HVAC It’s actually running right now so it might be
a little bit loud but underneath our crawl space Is a complete disaster and let me just show
you all right here’s our crawl space it’s Got a nice high security door in there this
uh plywood this was hanging off so it looks Like the last guy that came in for inspections
actually put the nails back in so uh oh gosh open This up right here I’ll get you a shot in here
but basically it is moisture City and there is Mold everywhere and we had a quote to fix it and
get it all abated it was twelve thousand dollars So we’re trying to figure out other options but
One Way Or Another We’re gonna have to spend a ton Of money to get this remediated so that the indoor
air quality is you know not going to kill us All right so this is an awesome Place back here
as well on the hill is we have another little
Lean-to area and I’ve already stacked it up
with the rest of the wood so we have a huge Pile of mainly Oak here and then barn beams from
some old barns around the area I don’t even know What species they are but it’s going to be some
cool looking wood uh unfortunately this place Is a bit overgrown and there are termites in
the back because I already saw them oh so we Definitely need to get this treated and make sure
that this wood doesn’t just get eaten up with bugs This is exactly what I’ve been waiting for and
wanting because we could never have anything Like this in an HOA obviously if we don’t have
room for it and they wouldn’t allow us so just Having the space to have anything like this on
our property and put whatever we want in here We could put tractors and El Caminos and you know
whatever we want because that’s what we’re looking For to get out of the city into the country a
bit and do things like this which I just love Here’s a look at the hill and it’s always
hard to tell how steep a hill is when you’re Looking at it on video but this is pretty
dang steep I don’t know how much of the Vertical rise is but the property goes up and
up into the woods and I’ve not even actually Gone back into those woods so kind of
exciting to see what’s back there too Oh I totally forgot about this so up
here we’ve got a little feeding trough I think this used to be for the deer looks a
little dilapidated right now but up here this is Another doozy this is the hunting blind
so they would literally shoot Turkey right In their backyard these things would come
out just ridiculous but what I’m thinking About doing is opening this up you know
for maker retreats here’s the door lock There you go we got two bunk beds uh you know
Airbnb Maybe and I am absolutely not going in There a thousand spiders bring your air
mattress we’ve got a little space for Them you just put them right down there
and uh you know we’ll make some things It’s gonna be nice right so this will Hideout
is kind of crazy but also kind of cool So I don’t know what I’m gonna do with it yet
but uh it’s fun to have sweet mama what is that That is like a death Cricket but uh he’s
gonna be a snack for a bigger spider I guess And this is maybe one of the best
parts of the property look at that view It is so awesome this hill is not really
usable although it’s going to be killer When we get snow if we get some sledding in but
the view is just amazing and I’m thinking about Maybe putting a little fire pit up here and we
can just chill out and watch the Sun go down Now there’s a ton of work to do here but I am
really excited to jump into it and I’m excited To have you guys along on the journey with us
I’m going to start in the shop so that I can Bring the tools over and move the shop over
