our website hypop.com.au. Let's get into it. So, I've got with me
the brand new Aputure 600D Pro. This light's really
highly anticipated. It's the upgraded version
of the popular Aputure 300D and the 300X. So, it's 600 watts of LED
power continuous lighting, perfect for video shoots,
filming, even for photography, but it's the one of the most
powerful continuous lights on the market right now. So, here we have
the case itself. You can see the case
is really similar to the previous model the 300D. It's even made from
the same material, same design and it's quite sturdy as well.
So, it's quite a firm case. Has all the things that you'd
need from a portable travel case including the handles,
you've got some straps here, you've got really high quality
plastic balancing guards here as well as the rolly wheels. And also of course,
you've got to zip it away trolley handle here.
One of those extendable ones that you can pull out
and bring with you on location or if you're traveling
with this particular kit.
Now, the good thing
about this bag too is that they have some
guards here on the corners because those are obviously
some of the wear and tear points if you're using this and you're
bringing it around with you. But let's open it up
and see what's inside this kit. So, there we have it. We've got
a pocket in the inside here. So, this is a mesh pocket
that has a zipper there. There's a few bits
and pieces inside. You've got some
Aputure stickers. You've got an Aputure remote. So, this s still the RC
one plus remote and that's the one
that's compatible with the majority of other
Aputure lights also.
You've got the product manual, the user guide
and that's pretty much it. So, this pocket here
is really good just for your bits and pieces,
even some accessories that aren't
particularly part of this kit. You can put your other
accessories in there too. And you've got a few segmented
velcro parts here. So, you've got firstly
the light itself. Let's pull that one out. And there we have it.
It's actually a massive unit. So, this thing here
is almost pretty much double the size of a 300D. We'll compare that shortly.
That's the lighting. It's got this really big sturdy
U-bracket there or their yoke bar and also some Aputure
branding here.
It looks like a carabiner hook. So, we'll have a closer
look at that soon. You've got some cables. So, you've got
your XLR cables here. So, this is a three meter
XLR 5 pin connecting cable. And you've also just got
the AC lead here. It's nice and long by the looks
of things which is good. And it's also still got
that new trick plugging system there which is good.
And you've got a reflector here. So, this is the LS600 series
hyper reflector. Now, the hyper reflector
you can see it's got some texture
on the inside there and it's slightly narrower
than the standard 60 degree reflector as well.
So, they've given you that. And the last component here is
the massive controller box here. So, this is the controller box that acts as also
the battery plate there, but the great thing about this
is the AC power, the controller box,
the battery plate, it's all in one unit here
similar to the 300D II.
So, here it is Aputure's largest
and flagship single point source
CRB LED light. This one here is 600 watts of
LED continuous light power. It has eight lighting effects. It's daylight rated
at 5600 kelvin with plus and minus 200k variants
and also it has 96 CRI and TLCI. So, it really is one of the
higher quality flagship lights by Aputure. It's basically the 300D II's
bigger brother. In terms of its physical size
and features, here you can see
the actual light itself is about the same length
as the 300D II. However, the thickness itself
is about one and a half times
the thickness of that light. So, you need
to bear that in mind when you're
purchasing this light. It really is a hefty unit.
However, it is supported by this really
high quality sturdy yoke bar. This yolk bar here is pretty much
almost a 360 degree yolk bar and you can see it has
that full swivel and full tilt.
However, you're restricted
when plugged in with the DMX cable here towards the bottom. And obviously, if you've got
a modifier at the top here and if you're swiveling
that around, that may block it there. However, with the reflector
I think you'll be okay. But we'll test that shortly. And overall,
the build quality of this light is really high quality and just up to
Aputure standard now. So, they really are pumping out
high quality continuous lights for filmmakers
and videographers alike. So, you can see here
the actual casing is made from a high quality plastic. It's blended with some
aluminium hits as well. So, you've got the back plate
here that's made from aluminium.
And on the top,
you have some vents here, some air vents that reveal
the heat sink on the inside. So, this large heatsink
obviously helps cool the unit. And on the bottom,
you can see the fan. There you have the fan and
that's a really large fan also. So, what we'll do
is we'll throw up some DB readings up on screen just to show you
how loud that fan is when using the actual light. So, if you're at full intensity,
obviously the fan will be spinning
quite a lot and fan noise is really important
to take note of. Now, on the front here,
you've got a bowens mount. So, you've got
the release button there and you just press that down
and you twist to unlock. It comes shipped
with the protection cap. And once you remove that, it reveals that really large
COB LED chip there so that you can see that's much
larger than previous models. And they have the included
reflector, the LS600 hyper reflector. So, this is the hyper reflector
that's specified in the specifications online.
There also is the F10
Fresnel mount. So, they have some readings
for that too. We'll throw those up on screen
in terms of LUX readings. Now, just to mount that,
all you need to do is just line that up and twist the lock.
So, that's nice and easy. We can test to see
if that will clear now which it actually pretty much
does when pointing downwards. However, if you're trying
to rotate it fully, it won't. So, you can definitely use
that as a light source and pointing it down.
Now, that bowens mount
allows you to mount a whole bunch
of different lighting modifiers including the Light Dome Mini 2,
the Light Dome 2 and a bunch of different
lighting modifiers from other brands as well. So, that's great.
Now, on the back here, you can see
there is a DMX connection and they've slightly changed
this design because it's a push to lock
and pull to release. And it really is
a convenient feature to be able to just detach and plug
in the cable nice and easy. You line up those red dots,
push that in and that's it. So, that provides the connection
to the controller pack here. And the DMX lead plugs into
the top of the controller pack. And then you've got
that new trick power cable here where you pull down on the tab
and release. So, that means all those
locking mechanisms on the cable prevent an accidental pull
or detachment of the cable, especially while during use
which is really important.
Now, the control box here,
you can see is one massive unit that houses the battery plates
on either side. The control panel itself. And then obviously
the whole AC powering system is all done through here. Now, the great thing
about this power control box is that it actually
can be battery operated. So, you can battery operate this
with just one V-lock battery and you'll only achieve 50%
of the output from the light. However,
when using two batteries there, it'll get you to
that full 100% output and depending on the battery
capacity, obviously the amount of time you
have to use the light varies.
But on top of that, it actually
charges the batteries too. So, this is only really seen
on really older Aputure models including the AL528
where they could charge the actual Sony NPF batteries
while it's plugged into the AC. So, if you plug this into the ac while the actual battery
is mounted, you can actually charge
those batteries which is actually
a convenient feature. So, if you have power,
access to a power source and you need
those v-lock batteries for something else too.
it It could be powering cameras, it could
be powering field monitors, that's really
convenient to have. So, now on the bottom
of the controller box here, you've got some DMX inputs as well as
that power cable connection and just the overall box itself
is just really hefty and also really convenient
at the same time to all be in one unit.
Now, on the side here, you've got
an ethernet cable connection. And you've also got
a USB connection as well. So that usb is for powering
as well as firmware updates.
And on the bottom here,
you've got stands which is the same thing
that you've seen on the 300D II. And on the front, you've got
the controls themselves. So, the controls themselves
are really simple. We'll go through that shortly. However, there's just
the on/off switch. You've got the dial. You've got
four buttons here at the front that just change
some of the features. And lastly is just the cable
here or the the actual loop. It's a braided loop
and it's really high quality and that's used to hand hold it or to hook it onto a stand
to prevent that from falling because it does also support
that super clamp system that Aputure have.
So, that really convenient quick
release system where you can mount
it directly to a stand or to the bottom of the C-stand.
So, if you're using a mini just the legs
of the C-stand for example, you can most certainly do that. So, just a couple
of small things we missed. Firstly in the unboxing, there was a super clamp
at the bottom of the bag there. So, this is a super clamp
that's included. It's similar to the one
in the C300D II bag and kit. So, you can see this
is the quick release and it lines up to the little plate on the side
of the control pack here. And that's a quick release. All you need to do is just move
that over to the side and put that into the locking
position and then clip that in. and that will hold the super
clamp into place there. And then you can mount that
to the light stand, to the bottom of the C-stand. So, that's one accessory
that's also included. Now, in terms
of the controller box, there's also the LCD screen
or the OLED screen and that's slightly
angled there.
So, that angling of the actual
screen is so that when you have this
sitting on the ground like that, you can still see
all the settings in the screen. And on the light here itself,
we've also got the yoke bar. Now, the yoke bar as you can see
is actually angled. And the reason why it's angled
is that so you can have that almost
directly positioned downwards without actually getting in
the way of the light itself. So, you can see that angle there
allows that clearance for it to be positioned pretty much
180 degrees downwards. Now one thing to note
about the 600D is that the actual COB light
of this light here is 600 watts of raw output. So, that's different to 600
watts of power consumption. So, some other LED lights or COB
lights from other brands mention the actual power consumption.
Whereas this is raw output. So, that's really one
of the strongest lights on the market today. And in terms of the actual power
consumption, it's 720 watts. So, it's something that you can
plug into a standard house main. So, having all of that as part
of this super strong light is really amazing
coming from Aputure.
Now on top of that, they have
weather sealed the cables. So, these are waterproof cables
and it's weather-sealed on the connection points here,
DMX cable included, new trick cable
and the light itself. So, you can use this on location
in all weather conditions which is also a great bonus. On top of actually
controlling the light manually on
the controller box here, you have three other ways
to control the light.
One is through
the Sidus Link app and that app there is the one that's compatible with a range
of other Aputure lights. It's also backwards compatible with
some of Aputure's other lights including the older model 300D
and 120D if you use
the Sidus Link bridge. So, that's that little device
that connects it into that new Sidus Link mesh system. So, you can also control it with
the included bluetooth remote. And this one here is that RC
one plus remote that controls some of Aputure's
other lights also. It allows you to control groups
of lights, the intensity, decrease
and increase the intensity. And you've also got
the FX button here which is that blue button.
And lastly, you can control it via the lumen radio wireless
DMX mode too. So, if you're compatible with, if you're familiar
with that system, you can use that too. Now,
the wireless operating range for the bluetooth
remote's 80 meters, but if you're wanting to use
the Sidus Link app or that lumen radio network then
you'll have 100 meters of range.
So, you have quite
a wide range there, especially if you're on location
which is great. So, just quickly
going through the menu. Firstly to turn on the light, make sure
it's plugged into the mains or you're using
the two batteries. And just pressing down
on the power button there. And straight away
you can see that OLED screen. It's on 0% now. You can see
it's even got a decimal point because you can adjust the light
by 0.1% increments there. Now, you've got four buttons up
along the top here.
One is the menu. The other is
getting into the lighting mode. There's effects
and it has a second option which is the trigger. And lastly is just
the back button there too. So, jumping into the menu, there's a few modes
that we can see here. Firstly is DMX mode. And you can jump in
and you can type in a DMX address or you've got
the DMX lost behavior. You can switch that on or off. And then going back.
Next is dimming curve. So, you've got four different
types of dimming curves that you can select there.
You got exponential, log,
S-curve and linear. Now, fan mode here. So, when you jump into that,
you can turn this on or off. When it's on on,
it actually continuously spins. So, the fan
will continuously spin. And when you turn it to off,
the fan will turn off. However, you will be limited to the temperature
of the actual light. And once it reaches
that cooling threshold, then the light itself will go into
heat protection mode and turn off. So, usually having that on
is probably the best option. However, if fan noise
will be an issue, you do have that option
to turn it off. Next is studio mode. In studio mode,
you can turn on or off. So, if you have it off,
when the light receives power. So, as soon as you plug it
into the mains or if it's got batteries, then it won't
turn on immediately. You'd actually need
to press the button. However, if you've got it on,
as soon as it receives power from either the mains
or batteries, then it will turn
on immediately. So, that's really for use
in a studio environment.
So, if you're using this
as a permanent light fixture, you won't always have to go up to the controller box
to turn it on. It'll turn on automatically
as soon as it receives power. Next option is control system. Now, here you can see
there's four different modes that you can use
to control this light. First one is bluetooth. Now, bluetooth is used
with the Sidus Link app. You can turn that on or off. So, you can actually turn off
the bluetooth here or you can turn that on. And you can even
reset the bluetooth. So, if you pair this
to a particular device such as a smartphone,
tablet or whatever, you can reset that and you can
pair it to another device. The next is
the 2.4 gigahertz control.
So, this one here is for
the included remote the RC1+. You can turn on
the 2.4 gigahertz control or turn it off. And to pair it up, you just need
to set the channel link group there similar
to other remote controls. And then there's
the lumen radio. So, lumen radio
is for your wireless DMX. You can set the lumen radio
on or off and then from there
you can pair.
You can even update
the firmware. And lastly is the ethernet here.
So, ethernet, you can plug it into the ethernet port
on the side here. It has a local IP address and it sets
an IP address for the device. So, you can control
this via ethernet also. Now, the next option
is just language. So, you have two options there. Looks like one's English
and one's Chinese. So, we'll keep that on English.
And then you've got update. So, update is
for your firmware updates. You can check the current
version of your light.
This one here is 1.2. And the lamp head
also has a version. So, you've got the control box
version and lamp head version. And it also tells you
the last update was installed on a particular date. And you've also got
the update firmware option and you can go yes.
And you'll need to utilize that usb port on the side
here usually. So, plug in a device
to update the firmware there. Now, that's pretty much it
for the menu. Now, jumping into the lighting,
you can see there the lighting, all you need to do
is spin the dimming knob here to control the intensity.
And it's quite easy.
There's also
a speed increase too. So, if you spin that quite fast, it jumps up in intensity
quite easily and also when dimming it. Now, it shows you
the dimming curve that you have. So right now,
it's an exponential. It also shows you
how it's being powered. It's being powered by AC main.
And it's also got the channel and group there
for your 2.4 gigahertz. So, it shows you
at a quick glance all your different settings
for controlling. You have even more control if
you're using the Sidus Link app. So, it's definitely
best advice to use that because that way you can
control groups of lights and you have all
the other settings at the touch of your hand
as well, and you won't have to go up
to the controller box.
However, the dimming knob here, you can see if you actually
press down on the dimming knob, it increases the intensity 20%,
40%, 60%, 80%, then 100%. So, it actually jumps up
in 20% increments as you press down
which is great. And when you press down on it
one more time, it jumps back down to 20%. So, that's great
to have at a preset if you're wanting to quickly
increase or decrease the intensity of the light.
All you need to do is press down and you don't need to spin
that that knob. Now, when you press down
on the light here, you've got some effects.
So, effects are always great. Now, the great thing about this
light is that it's so powerful that you're able
to obviously utilize some of these effects
with greater intensity, especially if you're using
a particular effect such as the pulsing effect or even
like the fireworks effects. Let's just jump into that. We'll run through
the different effects first. You've got TV,
you've got pulsing, you've got strobe,
you've got explosion, paparazzi, fireworks,
fault bulb and lightning. So, those are all your effects.
If you're actually using one that would say typically
have color such as fireworks, if you're using this light
with gels for example, you can actually color gel them and really make that effect
a lot more intense considering the output
of this light.
So, that's really the advantage
of the 600D. Now, with each of these effects, you can actually
control the intensity and then you can control
the frequency of the effect. So, for a fault bulb
for example, you have a frequency
rating from 1 to 10 and you know
the higher the frequency, the more often
that effect will go off. So right now, it's on one.
It sort of has
a few seconds delay there. And then if you put it on 10, you can see it flickers
a lot more because the frequency is set
to a higher number. Now, when you press
down on the knob, that's when it jumps over to the actual intensity
of the light or the output. And that's where you can
control the output too. So, it's good to see they've
still included the effects here. Once again it's a lot easier
to do in the Sidus Link app. And you have the eight different
lighting effects there that you can choose from. I imagine that if Aputure
release a firmware update, you'd be able to jump in
and hopefully they'll be able to add
some additional effects too because it's as simple
as setting up the patterns for the light there.
So, you can see they're all just different
types of patterns and flickers depending on the different
effect that you choose.
So, each of the effects
also have a random mode. So, when you spin
the wheel past 10, it goes into random mode. So, that means that the effect
itself will randomize so it won't have
a particular frequency. It will just be random. And that's
particularly good especially if you are using something
like TV for example or fault bulb
where it's a little intermittent the way the light
will play the effect. Now, jumping into explosion. So explosion here is one effect
that gets triggered. So, that's why you actually
have the effects button there and also the effects button
as a secondary function which is trigger. And if you press
that trigger button there, you can see there's a little bit
of a timer countdown or a loading bar
on the side here that shows the effect
triggering as well. So, that's the double function
of that button there. Now, just a few other features
to take note of. Firstly is the mounting options
for the light. You've got your standard baby
pin 5/8 inch spigot mounting. So, just to any light stand
or C-stand. And when you remove this and
remove the locking knob there.
You've also got your baby pins. That's that 1.125 inch mount
and you can mount it to the bottom
of C-stands like here. So, you can have
a low position light. And on top of that,
you can use a super clamp to mount the controller box
all in this one unit here. But to do that,
either you need to make sure that your C-stand legs
are quite long and you have a position
towards the back, or you remove the cable firstly
to ensure enough clearance there for the controller box
to mount directly to the light and also plug directly to
the controller box too. So, you can have this all in one
configuration just like this. Then apart from that,
you also have, let me put this back
onto the stand, a safety tether here.
So, if you're going to be
mounting this in a studio space, you've got a safety tether
as well as a carabiner hook. And it's mounted to the side
of the yoke bar here that you can actually
unscrew and mount to the right side
of the yoke bar. So, you can mount on either side there depending on
the positioning of the tether. So, if you have this mounted
to a wall or to a ceiling, you can safely tether that too. So, you can also change the
position of the locking knob. You have one lower position
and one higher position here. Just depends on if you have
enough clearance for the wall because the lower position
there is quite low and almost touching the bottom
of the mounting point too.
So, you can see even on a stand
some of the handles may bump into each other. So, you can put that
in a higher position also. Now, Aputure have released
a couple of accessories to pair with the 600D Pro.
Firstly is the F10 Fresnel head. So, that one there
is an accessory that converts it
to an actual fresnel head. It's really the size
of a 10 inch fresnel head. What we'll do is show
photo up on screen. So, this here is actually
made of full glass and it's to mimic
other fresnel heads. And on top of that, they've got
the F10 Fresnel head bundles. And it's also a 10 inch size.
So, it's to pair with that head if you really want to cut
the light direct the light a lot more.
You have the use of that.
Now, the great thing
about the Fresnel head is that
it's actually bowens mount. So, despite its size, they've managed to place
a bowens mount at the back to mount it directly onto
pretty much any bowens light, but specifically the 600D
where you'll see the most effect because of that 600 watt
raw output of LED. Now, the uses of the 600D pro
are pretty much limitless. You've got such a strong
single source output light which means that you don't have
to use the full output if you don't need it.
However, you do have one
that can flood an entire area depending on the lighting
modifier that you use. Whether you're using
the hyper reflector. You've got the F10
Fresnel mount. You've got the light dome
2 soft boxes so you can turn your hard light
into a soft light. You can use color gels. You can pair this
with other Aputure lights including the 300D, the 300X.
You've also got the ALMCs, you've got their
practical lights like the B7Cs. So, you can pair this
in a massive lighting kit and you can control that
all through the Sidus Link app, which means you pretty much have
a complete lighting solution regardless of the type of shoot
that you'll be doing, whether that's indoors in studio
or whether you're on location. The fact that this light here
is waterproof, all the cabling, you've got enough length there,
you've got six meters in length, you've got
waterproof control box, you've got
that battery operation, you have so many features that this light
has all packed into one unit, as well as that super strong
600 watt raw output that's comparable
to 1200 watt HMI lights.
Yyou've also got
the lighting effects. So, it's pretty much
an all-in-one light that packs everything into
a neat travel carry bag. Now, in Australia it retails
for about AUD$3100. I believe it's about
USD$1800-$1900. So, the price is also super
competitive compared to other lights
with the same amount of output, ut they don't have
the same amount of flexibility or versatility
as much as this light does. So, that was our unboxing and
